Floods, Floods and More Floods
February 2012 - Mitchell& Roma Flood Update
Mitchell is situated on the Maranoa River and established in 1854, first known flood was in 1864 and then a further flood in 1990 which did not affect the town, however had a major impact on the river system and the weir, dumping 700,000 tonnes of sand, restricting boating and water skiing activities. The Weir was dredged; however the 2012 floods have again seen tonnes of sand in the river and weir system. Read more

2011 - 2012 Industry Skills & Workforce Development Report (Skills Report)
The Industry Skills and Workforce Development Report for the Fitness, Sport and Recreation Industry (the Skills Report) represents the formal advice to Skills Queensland on the skilling and workforce development requirements for the industry.
A consultation draft of the 2011-2012 Skills Report has been finalised and is available on the website for further industry comment prior to its submission to the Queensland Government by 30 June 2012. Read more

New Traineeships Approved
The Skills Alliance is pleased to announce that the Department of Education and Training has declared a suite of new traineeships based on the SIS10 training package qualifications and that these have now replaced the old traineeship models.

Australian and Indian Businesses
The Australia India Education Council (AIEC) is partnering with Skills Australia and the Industry Skills councils to hold a conference in July 2012 to build business and skills development opportunities for Australian and Indian businesses. Read more
Feedback for SIS10 Sport and Sport & Recreation Continuous Improvement
SIS Sports Continuous Improvement (CI) Project - Considerable work has been done in preparing for a Draft 1 of the revised Sport specific qualifications; new and revised coaching and officiating units; and updated cross-sector units for a Version 2 endorsement of the training package. Read more

High Schools
Two Hundred (200) of Queensland most exceptional Year 10 and 11 students have the opportunity to share in over $5000,000 to support them in pursuing their academic and sporting endeavours in their final years of school. Click here for more information.
Women
Sport Leadership Grants and Scholarships for Women, provides women with opportunities to undertake training to reach their leadership potential within the industry as coaches, officials and administrators. Grants of up to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organisations, and scholarships of up to $10,000 per annum, are available. Click here for more information.

This is the first time the tournament has been held in Australia, which will see over 500 athletes and 150 coaches and carers from across Australia and New Zealand, come together for a week of great sport and camaraderie.
